Join us for a hands-on New York–style bagel baking class and learn how NYC’s most iconic food is made — from dough to schmear, with stories rooted in Jewish New York immigrant culture.

Dinner (fresh bagels!) will be served.

Pastry Chef Ayelet returns to Nifgashot for a festive Shavuot culinary workshop, this time focusing on one of the most beloved staples of Israeli and Sephardic home cooking - Burekas.

Together, we’ll learn how to make delicate homemade puff pastry dough, prepare rich and flavorful fillings, and master the techniques for achieving the perfect golden bake. Along the way, Ayelet will share tips, techniques, and stories that turn this iconic pastry into a meaningful cultural experience.

Join Nifgashot for a fascinating private tour of YIVO’s Learning and Media Center. This dynamic space brings Jewish history to life through extraordinary archival materials and immersive experiences.

Our visit will also include a rare behind-the-scenes archival encounter featuring authentic materials from New York City’s vibrant Jewish past. During this exclusive “show and tell,” we will discover the stories of Jewish immigrants, families, and organizations that helped shape the city’s Jewish present.

Nifgashot members will gather to celebrate Israel’s Independence Day with Ruchama,

the “Queen of Israeli Cuisine” on Instagram.

We are excited to bring the beautiful Moroccan Jewish tradition of Mimouna—a celebration of joy, openness, and abundance, held on the first evening after Passover when chametz is once again permitted.

Nifgashot members are warmly invited to celebrate Mimouna in the rich tradition of Moroccan Jewry, experiencing the customs, flavors, and festive spirit of this special holiday.

Join us for a moving evening with GFIDF — The Partners of Fallen IDF Soldiers, the only organization in Israel supporting the unmarried partners of fallen soldiers.

Join us for a warm, hands-on evening of unity, connection, and tradition — led by Shayna Sapo, Program Director of Chabad Family Programs of the UWS.

All ingredients will be provided, and light refreshments will be served.

When winter arrives, New York City transforms into a sparkling wonderland — glowing lights, festive displays, and music filling the streets.

Join us for a joyful Holiday Lights Tour led by Ortal Saadon, and experience how Jewish and American traditions beautifully intertwine during this magical season.

How can one find beauty in the darkness of war?

Curator Ya’ara Keydar takes us behind the scenes of her acclaimed exhibition “Heroines: Fashion and Hope in World War II” at the Design Museum Holon — exploring courage, creativity, and light amidst shadows.

Join us for an inspiring evening followed by a Nifgashot community meet & greet — where we’ll have the opportunity to meet Ya’ara Keydar in person, enjoy a glass of wine, and light refreshments.

We’ve planned a beautiful Tu Bishvat celebration filled with rich flavors led by food blogger Liat Sheerit, creator of “Food for Thought.”

Join us for a joyful Purim gathering featuring a hands-on Hamantaschen baking workshop, along with a meaningful conversation about the Megillat Esther and Queen Esther’s role and influence in Jewish history.

The evening will be led by Sheina from Chabad of the Upper West Side, whom many of us have already had the privilege to meet and be inspired by.

“Resilience, Identity, and Connection to Israel”

Miriam Peretz is one of Israel’s most beloved and inspiring public figures.
She immigrated to Israel from Morocco in 1964 and built her career in education — serving as a school principal for 23 years and later as a senior supervisor for the Ministry of Education.

After the tragic loss of her two eldest sons, Uriel and Eliraz, who fell in active military service in Lebanon and Gaza, Miriam transformed her grief into a mission. She became a national symbol of resilience, lecturing around the world on Zionism, leadership, and the power of hope.

Miriam is the mother of six and grandmother of nineteen. Since October 7th, she has been dedicating her time to visiting and comforting the families of fallen soldiers and the wounded — offering strength, presence, and a message of renewal even in the darkest times.

Join Nifgashot for a visit to the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research's new Learning and Media Center. The YIVO Learning and Media Center is a space meant to bring Jewish history to new audiences through the use of archival materials.

Learn how YIVO was founded in Vilna, once known as the “Jerusalem of Lithuania,” and how its archives were rescued and rebuilt in New York after the Holocaust.

Then experience a rare, behind-the-scenes archival encounter featuring authentic archival materials from New York City's vibrant Jewish past. During this show and tell, discover the history of Jewish immigrants, families, and organizations that have built the foundation for the city's Jewish present.
